The Gabbai’im Who Carried the Tzedakah

It also records the names of gabbai’im, rabbis, shochatim and communal representatives through whom the donations were collected and transmitted.

At the conclusion of the record appears a particularly significant request concerning the receipts: “to send me the receipts without delay, in order to add a blessing.”
These words preserve the connection between the charitable gifts, those whose names were recorded, and the blessing associated with the sacred work.
The Manuscript Lives On
Today, this treasured historic manuscript is preserved by Rabbi Naftali Horowitz, a grandson and descendant of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Paneth, the Maaglei Tzedek of Dezh.
Deeply moved by the remarkable document preserved through his family, Rabbi Horowitz shares its story and treasures the continuing connection between Tzedakah, the names of its supporters, prayer and blessing.
