Pidyon Nefesh with Teshuvah and Tefillah.
Pidyon Nefesh — for a Refuah, any Yeshuah, or L’ilui Nishmas
What is Pidyon Nefesh?
Pidyon Nefesh is an order of Tefillah and Tzedoke, performed according to the teachings of Torah HaKabbalah as a Bakashah for Rachamim and the Hamtakas Hadinim. There is an order for a person during their lifetime and a separate order for the rectification and elevation of departed souls.
Pidyon Nefesh for Refuah and Yeshuah — with 160 silver coins.
According to the order of the Rashash, following the Arizal HaKadosh. Torah HaKabbalah describes the “Tzelem” as a spiritual garment connected to the soul and its protection. Sins impair the Tzelem; Teshuvah and good deeds are the path to rectification and closeness to Hashem.
The Pidyon is performed with special Tefillos and Kavanos using 160 silver coins. The Hebrew words “Tzelem” and “Kesef” both have the numerical value 160. The Pidyon and accompanying TZEDOKE are offered as a Bakashah for Rachamim, rectification of the Tzelem and Hamtakas Hadinim, for healing, salvation and protection.
The Pidyon accompanies personal Teshuvah: regret for the past, leaving the sin, confession and a good resolution for the future.
For Niftarim — 160 silver coins
According to the order recorded in Kuntres Hayechieli by the Kabbalist Rabbi Yitzchak Alfiya, zt”l. Mitzvos and Tzedoke can be offered for the elevation of a soul even after a person has passed away. Pidyon Nefesh for departed souls is a special order of Tefillah and Tzedoke offered in merit of the soul and as a Bakashah for Rachamim on its behalf.
The order includes 160 coins and prayers for departed souls, seeking the Hamtakas Hadinim, rectification of the soul and its peaceful rest. TZEDOKE given in the departed person’s merit adds merit for the elevation of the soul. Its prayers and purpose differ from the Pidyon performed for a person during their lifetime.
